Zakres tematów: |
(tylko po angielsku) The main focus of this course is to familiarize students with the concepts of stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination and how they are present in everyday life. The course will also enhance critical thinking skills and reflective approaches towards the concepts of stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. We will analyze stereotypes as a generalized belief about a particular category of people and an expectation that people might have about every person of a particular group. We will focus on explicit and implicit stereotypes, their importance for social psychology, and the social and cognitive functions of stereotypes. After that we will study the negative effects of stereotyping and analyze different kind of stereotypes: gender, social, religious, cultural stereotypes. Later we will focus on how stereotypes can lead to prejudice and discrimination. We will analyse the justification-suppression model, and the realistic conflict theory, which states that competition between limited resources leads to increased negative prejudices and discrimination. Finally, we will analyse discrimination and its types though the lens of label theory and game theory. All of the contents will be studied through a theoretical and empirical perspective, using examples from the life and country of the students, to analyze how stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination express and can be contested. |
