Skrócony opis: |
The aim of the course is to present a multidimensional view of human happiness from a psychological perspective. We will discuss a psychological concept of happiness together with common myths and illusions about achieving it. We will also analyze results of studies regarding various human qualities and activities (incl. gratitude, forgiving, kindness, optimism) and discuss their outcomes for understanding human happiness. Finally we will test techniques used in experiments to increase happiness. |

The course is designed as a seminar with the elements of a laboratory experience. The following topics will be discussed: 1. Introduction to positive psychology 2. The science of happiness – definitions, measurements and concepts 3. Social and cultural determinants of happiness 4. Happiness enhancing strategies: • Gratitude as a source of happiness • Optimism • Positive emotions and Living in the Present • Positive thinking • Investing in social relations • Kindness • Coping and forgiveness • Setting goals • Religion and spirituality as a source of happiness • Taking care of body and happiness 5. Development of virtues 6. Test |

Final grade will be based on: -individual activity (homeworks, preparation for classes): 30% of final grade -short presentation: 30% of final grade -test: 40% of final grade |
